2018/19 season Wigan Athletic finish 18th in the EFL Championship however, the FA hands in a 20 point administration penalty as well as a hefty fine. The owner decides to cut his losses and allow the club to be turned over to the FA, which drops them from League One into League Two. The first team players at the club are disgruntled and most force moves away from the club.
Summer 2019 - Red Bull purchases the club from the FA and renames the club RB Wigan AFC. Next, they hire Wigan legend Paul Scharner to man the club. Ralf Ragnick is tasked with testing the Red Bull formula again, but this time in Greater Manchester. Scharner is only able to convince Fox and Pilkington to stick around at the club while Gelhardt, Gyollai, Weir, Jolley, Merrie, Hart and Owens are promoted from the reserve/youth teams. Ragnick got to work building the team pulling players from all over Europe.
