I recently started an RTG with Bolton and its the first on FIFA 21 that Ive really been able to get into so I thought I'd do a write up on it. I'm now in League 1 after winning L2 on the final game of the season. My aim for this RTG is to take as many of the players Bolton start with up to the Premier League as I found a lot of their starting team to be useable from the off… THE GAFFER I named my manager Jay Jay Okocha and tried to make it look as much like him as possible for my RTG. The fact Jay Jay is in the dug out has been a factor in my play style and transfer polices, more on that below… TRANSFER & SQUAD SIZE POLICIES - In L1 & L2 the squad cannot contain more than 30 players come deadline day. In the Championship I'll change to 35 and then 40 for the Premier League to allow for youth players. - No youth scouting until the Championship. Bolton have a lot of young players at the start I wanted to develop. - I tried to keep signings realistic, but with Jay Jay in charge felt I could get away with the 1 landmark signing a season (nobody ridiculous). - Tried to sign mainly domestic players from L1, L2 & The Championship, or English, Irish, Welsh & Scottish players - I signed some young Nigerian players in S1 as it made sense with Jay Jay in charge. - Try to sign young players let go by other “local” teams such as Man City, Man Utd, Wigan, Rochdale, Blackburn, etc at the start of 2nd season (no one above 65 OVR) - Scout the French leagues for young talent or starting squad members if they're from FRA L2 - The squad must always contain at least one player with good FK accuracy & one player with the “Giant Throw In” trait. - Scout the MLS for emerging talent from the US, Canada and Central America TACTICS I use a 4231 (Wide) with one CDM changed to a CM to allow for the “Stay on edge of box” instruction. GK set to sweeper keeper & comes for crosses. Fullbacks are on balanced and overlap. CDM is on stay back while attacking. CAM on get into the box & balanced. LM on cut inside, balanced support runs, get into the ox for crosses and track back when defending. RM on get in behind, stay wide, get into box for crosses and track back when defending. ST on stay central, get in behind and stay forward. I play a high line with an average defensive width and pressure on heavy touch or sometimes press after possession loss. Going forward I use fast build up, with the attack fairly narrow and with a high number of players getting into the box (sliders at 7). I have corners and freekicks set to 4 for both. Chukwuemeka 60 OVR *S2 If any players are missing from the Bolton starting squad they were sold in season 1 with the exception of A. Gnahoua who I sold in season 2. In season 1 Sarcevic & Crawford played a lot of games, but Yearwood is an upgrade on Sarcevic and Crawford will start a lot of season 2 games ahead of Bayard as I find him a solid option when skill and pace isnt working in the CAM role. Santos & Greenidge are absolute beasts at centre back! Their pace, height and strength allow me to play with a high line. They’re so strong in the air too which makes up for Jaaskelainens lack of height for a GK at corners and crosses. Aremu at CDM is amazing too! He chases down runners with ease and his high aggression means he wins most shoulder to shoulders. Yearwood I’ve only played one game with after finding him on a MLS scouting trip. I’m hoping he plays like a lower league Yaya Toure with his well-balanced stats though. The full backs are both solid and should be useable for a while. Bakayoko fits my system well is a great target man but also has enough pace to get on through balls and the strength to push away defenders tracking back with him. Politic is a touch of class on the left and Isgrove is solid enough bombing forward and crossing into the box. Bayard on his day is sublime, but he can be a little inconsistent at times. Hes mainly in there for his free kicks and pace. Barnawi is a great player for the bench, offers me cover at RB and he has the giant throw in trait which came in hand in my first game in L1. He sent in a long throw which Bakayoko headed in for a 1 – 0 win in the 87th minute away at Wimbledon! There’s not enough in depth guides/reviews for career mode anymore – I used to use a website called FIFA scouting tips which was great for RTG’s and team based reviews, but it’s been inactive a few years now so I thought I’d have a crack myself! Transfermarkt says Evanilson is 1.83 cm tall, Wikipedia claims he's 1.81 cm tall, Soccerway says he's 1.80 cm tall, Fbref.com claims he's 1.83 cm (6.0 ft) tall and the Football Manager 21 database lists him as 1.80 cm. Something's off here EA, Jesus Christ, you guys are off mark with this one's height. I can imagine a developer like EA being a few centimeters off on the estimation, maybe up to 4 cm or so, depending on the age and growth-spurt but not as much as between 10 cm and 13 cm off the mark.
