FIFA XVIII S.S. Lazio Career Mode
Shortlist: https://sofifa.com/shortlist/184377
The main idea is to go with Athletic Bilbao-esque cantera politics embraced by Lazio. It will not be the same, however, as there is no such a strong regional identity as in the Basque Country. AFAIK, Latium residents don't find themselves as the separate nation. The idea is to keep the core of the squad as the Latium & Roman talents display. Therefore, my squad will be divided to 3 categories - named "legios".
LII spots:
I. Legio I - Cives Romani: Laziali [XLIV/LII]
The first category, Laziali, will take up to 85% of the spots in the squad. Laziali is the category which mainly consists of players named in this shortlist. "Laziali" status is given to the players who:
- are real players and were born in the Latium region (mostly Rome ofc) or
- are real players and have played for at least one season in the youth teams for any of the three Latium region clubs in FIFA: S.S. Lazio, A.S. Roma and Frosinone Calcio, irrespectively of their nationality or
- are FIFA-created players who came through Lazio academy or
- are FIFA-created players who appeared in A.S. Roma & Frosinone Calcio squads at the start of the season as their first clubs (they will be treated as these clubs' academies adepts).
OFC this is the only category which won't stick strictly to the spot limit - it can even be a full squad of Lazialis.
II. Legio II - Auxilia Italiana: Stelle del Calcio Domestici [V/LII]
Second category, Stelle del Calcio Domestici, will take up to 10% of the maximum squad capacity. These players are Italians, who don't suit the Laziali category. Most of the time, players from this category will bring some quality into the squad to fill the holes, caused by lack of talents at some positions in Laziali category. At the other time, players like for example Immobile (non-Laziali), who will stay in the club, are going to be club's crucial players.
III. Legio III - Auxilia Stranieri: Stelle del Calcio Stranieri [III/LII]
Stelle del Calcio Stranieri will take only up to 5% of the squad maximum capacity. These are the players who were born outside of Italy and don't suit the Laziali category. Of course, these are probably to going to be the club's biggest stars, at least in the beginning (as for example Sergej Milinković-Savić, who will stay in the club). This category can also be filled up with Auxilia Italiana, for example: there are 5/5 Auxilia Italiana spots filled, and only 1/3 of the Auxilia Stranieri filled. This means there can be bought 2 more Auxilia Italiana, up to maximum of 8 Auxilia Italiana & Stranieri together. However, if for example, there is 4/5 Auxilia Italiana, and 3/3 Auxilia Stranieri spots filled, there is no way to transfer Auxilia Stranieri into the club, as they cannot take spots of Auxilia Italiana.
As the squad building methods are described, here is a brief summary:
Squad-building methods will help to keep 95% of the squad Italian, and at least 85% of the squad is going to have ties with the Latium Region & Capital City. This will help create unique "against modern football" & keeping-to-the-roots atmosphere around the club, which can only be seen in Bilbao nowadays. Lazio feels like a great place to embrace these politics, as it has everything:
- region & city with A LOT of history which can boost up regional identity,
- loyal and loud supporters,
- right wing ties.
The goal is to reduce the necessity of keeping Auxilia Italiana & Auxilia Stranieri to the minimum in a few seasons by creating the Laziali stars through academy. S.S. Lazio is going to be hardly representing the Rome & Latium region's spirit. First few seasons are going to be a transformation time. Maybe some silverware will come, maybe not. Lazio is not a "top-top" club at the start, so mid table finish isn't going to be a tragedy, but of course there will be much effort to play European Cups every season. Hopefully there will be many Laziali talents in academy, so in a few years the club will compete with the best teams. 15 seasons is the FIFA's career mode maximum, but I believe it's the right amount of time to conquer the Europa with a Champions Cup going to Rome, even a few times.
