The revenue from either of the European competitions would have allowed the club to stabilize the now reported £200m in debt. The club has been penalized 50 points by the league which pushes them into the Championship. Without the revenue of the premier league, the club is forced to sell a majority of the players to remove the burden of the massive debt.
