Tried to create this realistic squad for Newcastle. I feel like purchasing players from relegated prem squads is the way to go for us at the moment and not immediately breaking the bank on ridiculous wages/transfer fees. Buying semi-young players with prem quality is good and allowing players from the championship to come up and be bled into the league overtime allows for success. Add in a slightly over the hill star in Javi Martinez and I feel like there is good core to develop on in the future windows.
Martinez - 15mil
Javi Martinez would be a signing I would make hoping he could play up to 60 games over 3 season. He is a worldclass player at the beginning of the end of his career and would be great to bring into the squad as an immediate "big name". He should be cheap considering he has one year left on his contract, is 31 and out of favour in the Bayern squad. His defensive presence and size would be great in the squad but he would need to be managed correctly as to not burnout and risk injuries occurring.
Watkins - 15mil
Ollie Watkins is a quality championship player and would add movement, creativity, goals up front and the ability to take pressure off of Joelinton. He can play across the front line and allows multiple formations. A gamble worth playing for and would only happen if Brentford do not get promoted. Cheap option for immediate and future squad improvement.
King - 20mil
Josh King is a similar player to Ollie Watkins in the way that if Bournemouth get relegated then he is worth getting into the squad. Can play multiple positions up front and can relax the pressure on others to score consistently. Would be a cheap option only if Bournemouth go down.
Fosu-Mensah - 10mil
I would put my faith in Fosu-Mensah regaining some of his potential after a bad injury and I would like to imagine him as at the very least a good rotation player at RB/CB in future. Fosu-Mensah would be cheap and is worth a gamble for sure.
Ake - 25/30mil
Ake can be cover at LB/CB and has experience in the prem. He could allow us to play a back 3 with ease in future and gives pace and mobility in the central defensive areas. Cheaper option to increase the quality of the squad.
McGinn - 25mil
I feel like in this formation McGinn would be a better player to help Javi Martinez with the defensive responsibilities. Great box to box midfielder and would be a decent cheaper option if Villa are relegated. He works hard both ways on the pitch and can help put pressure on Matty Longstaff to take the box to box position off him.
Buendia - 25mil
Buendia has been amazing in the prem and championship in England and would be a great creative signing with defensive qualities. He would be a cheap option to pick up if Norwich go down and is absolutely to the quality of a good perm player. He is a good age and can be relied on to grow in value and quality with the squad.
There are too many signings here for one window so I would suggest signing
- Javi Martinez
- Buendia
- McGinn
- Ollie Watkins
I don't see Fosu-Mensha, King and Ake as being important signings with our current squad.
