Did you watch City x Real? Probabily two of the best teams in the world play with Rodri and Kroos as CDMs and BOTH keep showing up to attack, scoring, assisting. Thats how a world class CDM should play. IMO you have this wrong concept about CDM being an CB frozed in front of the defensive line and this dont exist anymore, not when we talk about top players in this position. Just look how this players score, Casemiro, Rodri, Kroos, Kimmich, Kante, Kessie, Tchoameni, Camavinga all this guys played at some point as CDM and showed up to the ofensive box.
