Rendimiento decepcionante, vino por una suma considerable para pelearle la titularidad a Navas pero no hay color, Navas acercándose a los 40 sigue siendo muchísimo mejor. Sobre todo en ataque, a Montiel le cuesta mucho marcar diferencias. Además, ocupa plaza de extracomunitario, tiene cierto problema extradeportivo ahí candente y tras ganar fama con el mundial es un tío que pensaba que podía tener algo de cotización. Y además, el Sevilla tenía dos jóvenes canteranos con buen nivel para el lateral derecho y necesita meter canteranos en primera plantilla. A Carmona al final lo cedieron al Getafe pero Juanlu se va a quedar y ya le estaba ganando el puesto a Montiel, que parecía que iba a comenzar la temporada como el 3º lateral derecho si se quedaba. En resumidas cuentas, no es que sea horrible pero no había cumplido expectativas y tiene pinta de que iba a perder su sitio en el equipo, así que este era el momento de vender si se quería recuperar algo de la inversión.

To people wondering why he's gone from ST to LB/RB, it's because we've been missing a LB/RB in every game since this winter. Ismaily and Gudmundsson were injured at the same time, and we loaned out one of our two RBs this winter because the coach didn't want him any more. So Weah played LB because it was the only option for the whole team to do so, and then he played RB when our only RB (Diakité) got injured. We wouldn't have had any injuries, he wouldn't have played at all (or very little as a substitute) even in attack because he's no good.

You can see his skill/talent, but it has been hard for him to find consistency at Sevilla. Navas is a club legend and more secure at the back and incisive with crosses. Montiel has good vision and passing going forward, but he also can be reckless and temperamental at times. I like him but not sure Sevilla is convinced (yet?) that he is the long-term replacement for Navas.

He is a hard-working striker who is constantly pressing the defenders and running to the space. He is way better when facing the goal than playing as the classic reference. He doesn't have the best ball control, but he compensates it being fast and strong. But his greater strength is to be an aerial threat in the box. He is one of the best in the world for sure.
