EA are really lazy with their upgrades, they actually have an automated system instead of increasing stats manually. I've caught out there system a few times, you can use the system yourself if you go to customize player and choose any Overall then hit the generate button next to it. Generates stats based on Ovr. I know they use this system because I've caught them, Haaland got his crossing upgraded from 46 to 47. Very strange it made no sense at the time because both ratings are terrible and why give him plus 1 on a stat in the 40s? Because they didn't, the system did, they updated him to a higher ovr and the automatic system gave him +1. If you use the system yourself you will notice it will commonly add +1 or -1 to any random stat. I reckon they done the same here.
