I don't want to be that guy that talks without constantly seeing him but ffs he made the Stoke defence look like it was made of 4 VVDs. Idk if it was the pressure on him and the team, but they were all awful, specially this dude. Well that's according to a specific measurement, according to that measurement Chiellini had been dribbled like twice, and most other elite CB's have similar statistics. Fact is, van Dijk rarely pushes up aggressively to win the ball, he lets Matip or his midfielders to this, and it's really visible in the Netherlands where he has no super high pressure team mates. When his unexperienced colleagues such as de Ligt fails to pressure good enough, he gets exposed. Van Dijk has great physique, he's aerially terrific, has a fine passing ability and is composed on the ball, but when it comes to defensive intelligence and tackling, he's not much more than average in my opinion. This makes him a great centre back, however not as good as the best ones. Beaverized, gwaarrhggghghg
