Principles of United - Fixing A Fundamentally Broken Team
Manchester United is a team full of overpaid former stars with no cohesive vision for the future, a team that seems perfectly content toiling in mediocrity until the end of time.
Looking into the squad, there are a surprising number of players who would appear to be much more natural in a 3 defender system as opposed to United's 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system.
Onana had the majority of his success due to the system at Inter, featuring a back 3 and a deep lying playmaker who force the opposing defense to push up, allowing Onana to take a presser or 2 out of play entirely, making it significantly easier to build from the back.
Maguire and Shaw have also put in some of their best performances in 3 defender systems.
---
In this system, the team would revert to a 3-2-2-3 system in build up, or possibly a 4-2-1-3 if the 6 drops in to provide an extra outlet for passing. The wingers stretch the pitch allowing Onana to hit them with a driven, defense-splitting pass.
Players who do not fit this system and who have proven incapable of playing at this level (Antony, Malacia, Casemiro, Dalot, Reguilon, etc) will be moved on, and replaced with more fitting players. A deep playmaker (Koopmeiners), a RB/CM hybrid (Laimer), a young CM who can play all 3 roles (Kokcu), and a proven ST (Toney)
---
I am not a Man Utd fan but I am tired of Stupid United fans not understanding their team, and how close they are to being competent.
